All children at Chatsworth in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal.

However, some families may also be eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals. We encourage families who think they may qualify to check their eligibility, even though their child already receives a free school meal.

Registering your eligibility is important as, depending on your circumstances, it may enable the school to receive additional Pupil Premium funding to support your child’s education.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility for benefits-related Free School Meals depends on the benefits or support your household receives.

From September 2026, this includes all children in households receiving Universal Credit, regardless of household earnings. Different eligibility criteria apply to some other benefits.

How do I apply?

Applications for children attending Chatsworth Infant School are made directly through the school.

If you think your child may be eligible, or would like us to check your eligibility, please contact the school office. We will be happy to help you with the application process.

Even if your child already receives a free meal as part of the universal entitlement for infant children, we encourage you to apply if you think you may qualify.
