Our school day runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm, Monday to Friday. This provides a compulsory school week of 32.5 hours.

The school gates open from 8:30am, giving families a flexible arrival period and allowing parents and carers with children at Burnt Oak Junior School time to manage both drop-offs.

Children say goodbye to their grown-ups at the gate and follow the Yellow Brick Road around to their classrooms, where staff are ready to welcome them.

The side gate opens at 3:10pm, allowing parents and carers to come onto the school site ready for collection at 3:15pm.

The School Day in Reception

Reception children start and finish at the same time as the rest of the school, but their day is organised differently from the more formal Key Stage 1 timetable above.

Learning in Reception follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and includes a balance of adult-led learning and continuous provision. Children have opportunities to learn and explore throughout the day across both the indoor and outdoor environments.

As Reception children have access to continuous provision and outdoor learning as part of their daily curriculum, they do not follow the same set playtime structure as Key Stage 1. They also attend assemblies where appropriate rather than following the full Key Stage 1 assembly timetable.

This allows the Reception day to be responsive to the needs of our youngest children while maintaining the same start and finish times as the rest of the school.

The Nursery Day

Our Nursery offers morning and afternoon sessions:

• Morning session: 8:30am–11:30am
• Afternoon session: 12:30pm–3:30pm

Children attending for the full day remain at Nursery for lunch between the morning and afternoon sessions.

To support families who also have children to collect from the main school, Nursery gates open from 3:15pm. Parents and carers may collect their Nursery child at any point between 3:15pm and 3:30pm, with the Nursery session formally ending at 3:30pm.

We kindly ask that, wherever possible, children are not collected before 3:15pm. The end of the Nursery session is an important part of the children's day, and earlier collections can interrupt activities and routines for both the children and Nursery staff. We appreciate families' support in helping us keep this part of the day calm and settled.
