The Pioneer Academy Trust was formed when Stewart Fleming Primary School became an academy in 2011.  In May 2012, The Trust was asked by Bexley Local Authority to support Belvedere Junior School which then converted to an academy in April 2013.  The Trustees were once again approached by Bexley in the summer term of 2014 to support Burnt Oak Junior School which subsequently converted to an academy in July 2015.

Chatsworth Infant School has a long history of working closely with the Junior School that we feed, Burnt Oak.  Therefore, we naturally formed links with the Pioneer Academy and entered into a working partnership in the Spring of 2016. The Head Teacher and Governors of Chatsworth Infant School decided to join The Pioneer Academy and formally converted to an academy in September 2016.

That strengthens the picture: the relationship isn't just about transition from Year 2 to Year 3; there are shared services, staff and ways of working, while the schools remain distinct. I'd incorporate those naturally rather than making it sound like an organisational chart.

Working Together with Burnt Oak Junior School

Chatsworth Infant School and Burnt Oak Junior School have a close and longstanding partnership, supporting continuity for children and families as they move from infant to junior education.

The two schools remain separate schools, each with its own Headteacher, leadership and distinct identity. Each Headteacher has responsibility for leading their own school, while our leadership teams work closely together, meeting regularly to share expertise, coordinate areas of joint working and support a consistent approach across both schools.

Some roles and services work across both school communities. Our SENCO, Vicky Harbor, works across Chatsworth and Burnt Oak, supporting continuity of SEND provision, while our premises team works across both sites.

Our wider staff teams also work closely together. Staff from both schools come together for INSET days, professional development and joint staff meetings, and collaborate on areas including curriculum development, teaching and learning and school improvement.

Our partnership extends beyond the school day. Buddies, our wraparound care provision, serves families from both Chatsworth and Burnt Oak, providing before- and after-school care for children across the two school communities.

While Chatsworth and Burnt Oak each have their own history, character and community, we share common values and ambitions for our children. Working closely together enables us to share expertise and resources, strengthen continuity between the schools and support our families, while ensuring that each school retains its own identity.
